Business goals & objectives
We at Midrand Brake & Clutch are working towards expanding our business, at present we are in the process of building a new site that can accommodate larger trucks and interlink trailers in order to speed up our turnaround time on repairs.
Company History
Midrand Brake & Clutch was started in April of 1983 with one driver, one brake drum skimmer and one front counter person with Ivor Cartmell heading up the company.
Originally the company was started in Olifantsfontein and later moved to a branch to a plot in Midrand hence the trading name.
The company was started and was solely owned by Mr. Ivor Cartmell but who retired at the beginning of 2017 and sold the company to his two sons Claude and Kevin.
In 1991 Claude eldest son to Ivor started with Rand Brake and in 1993 Kevin second son of Ivor joined the team on a full time basis. In the following year Candice, wife to Kevin, joined the company.
Years later although both sons were already qualified as accountants, both sons qualified as motor mechanics and in 2010 Kevin’s eldest son Jerred joined the company.
In 1996 it was decided to buy a piece of land in a new area called Aeroport, and to build our own factory. In August of 1997 we finally moved into our new premises.
From humble beginnings today we employ 22 staff members on a full time basis with a customer base of over 150 clients both large and small concerns. In addition we have contracts with many government and defense force departments.

Mr. Claude Cartmell holds a Bcom in Business Economics from WITS University and an “A” grade journeyman in motor mechanics
Mr. Kevin Cartmell holds a National Diploma Cost and Management accounting from WITS Tech and an “A” grade journeyman in motor mechanics
